Gossip Girl (Voice Over) I bet you're wondering what Gossip Girl is doing up so early.

Truth is: I never went to bed. Why waste precious time dreaming

when waking life is so much better?

*used to show that you can understand what sb is feeling, describing, etc.

/ I was so angry.” ─ “I bet you were.

* What are you doing up? / cf.) do up sth. ; (…

하다 / do up one’s buttons 단추를 채우다 / do up one’s hair 머리 손질을 하다/ do up a

parcel 소포를 꾸리다/ The children were all done up in costumes.

cf.) Im done up.

* I`m not going to waste time telling you my thoughts of this disgusting situation.

/cf.) She is not satisfied to spend her days doing nothing.

* ó dream / There are many kinds of dream signs, and they usually reflect the waking life

of the person who has the dream./ cf.) in one's waking hours 깨어 있을 때에. ; Allie and

Noah spent every waking hour together. And soon they were inseparable. –Notebook-

Gossip Girl (Voice Over) Is there really anything better than a lazy Sunday? Reading the paper

in bed, sipping coffee, scrambling an egg or two. Yeah, right. We

Upper East Siders don't do lazy: Breakfast is brunch and it comes

with champagne, a dress code and a hundred of our closest

                                      friends... and enemies.

*cf.) gulp down water 물을 꿀꺽꿀꺽 마시다/ She took a swig from her bottle of beer.

/ Swish whiskey around in your mouth without swallowing.

*over easy: fried on both sides(over hard, over medium)/ sunny side up: fried only on one side/ scrambled: eggs with the yolks and whites beaten together and cooked to a firm but soft consistency. (sometimes mixed with milk or cream)

*The Upper East Side, which is perceived to be traditionally home to more affluent

conservative commercial and business types. The neighborhood is decidedly upscale

with the median household above the Manhattan average. / the Upper West Side is

primarily a residential and shopping area, with many of its residents working in more

commercial areas in Midtown and Lower Manhattan. While these distinctions were

never hard-and-fast rules, and now mean little, it has the reputation of being home to

New York City's liberal cultural and artistic workers, in contrast to the Upper East Side.

*rules about what clothes people should wear at work 복장 규정/ In an effort to promote business, many restaurants have relaxed or done away with their dress codes.

[Tables get decorated, flowers arranged, strawberries are being dipped in chocolate]

Gossip Girl (Voice Over) Chuck's dad Bart Bass is hosting the annual brunch

for his foundation. Everyone is invited. Well, not everyone.

*Annual events can consist of a casual Sunday brunch.

/ cf.) They have an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet for seven dollars per person. There are quite a few things to choose from.

Dan  Oh, hey, you're up.

Jenny  And you're checking up on me. I'm ok, really, I'm ok. You know,

I was ok when you asked me at the party and in the cab, when we got home,

before and after I brushed my teeth. Well, I just feel really... stupid. I mean,

how could I've actually thought that Chuck Bass just wanted to talk to me?

*to make sure that sb is doing what they should be doing/ You're here to check up on

me.

Dan  Because you trust people, which is normally a good thing.

*cf.) One [You] can have too much of a good thing.

Jenny  Yeah, except when it involves Chuck.

*cf.) But when it comes to morality,

Dan  Yeah, pretty much.

Jenny  So, the real question is: How are you?

Dan  Me? Why wouldn't I be ok?

Jenny  You know, at the end of the night with Serena and the... the...

[Jenny makes a waving gesture]

Dan  Was it really that bad?
