Sophie This is good. This is good.
    When you
hit a wall, you gotta change the subject.
So why did PoP break up? I mean,
Rhonda told me that you guys were friends growing up?

*hit a/the (brick) wall (informal) ; if you hit the wall when you are trying to achieve something, you reach a situation where you cannot make any more progress. /We've just about hit the wall in terms of what we can do to balance the budget./ The enquiry hit a brick wall of banking security.

Alex We were, yes, and then Colin met a new manager......
  who
convinced him he was the true star of the band.
and shortly after that, he left, taking with him the last three songs
we'd written together......and putting them on his solo album
which went on to sell a mere eight million records.

*He tried to convince me that I wasnt good enough for the team.그는 내가 팀원으로 적합하지 않다는 사실을 나에게 납득시키려고 애썼다./ What convinced you to vote for them? 당신이 그들에게 투표하도록 확신을 준 게 무엇인가요?/ How can I convince you (of her honesty)?

/ I am convinced of her innocence/convinced that she is innocent.

Sophie But how did you deal with that?

*Take action in, handle, administer, dispose of, as in The committee will deal with this matter.

Alex Oh, with drugs, alcohol......and ultimately, my own solo album.

Sophie Cool.

Alex This copy has been in the racks for six years.

Sophie Come on.

Alex No, no. I check every week. You see, I made a little mark, just there on the back.
See? It sold only 50,000 copies, most of those to my mother.
  Rolling Stone called it "a
crass, contrived effort......

not even good enough for a dentist chair."

*the crass questions that all disabled people get asked

질문들/ a novel with a very contrived plot 구성이 너무 작위적인 소설

*A dentist chair has a built-in CD player.

Sophie Well, I'm sure there were other reviews.

Alex There were, there were. But none as good as that one.
And they were right, by the way. Yeah.
To cut a long story short,
I gave up trying to write...lost an incredible amount of money and then my apartment.
Chris
stuck by me, booked me an '80s reunion night on Long Island.
And suddenly, they liked me again. You know, it was weird.
It was like I'd never been away. The audience was a
tad older,
as was I...but we were very, very profoundly happy to see each other again.
And it went on from there. Cruises.
Reunions. Knott's Berry Farm,
which I'm sure you're familiar with.
Busch Gardens,
that's one of my big
fixtures of the year. What else can I tell you?

*The story was not as good as the last one.

*In short/ In brief

*stick by …에 충실하다(=be loyal to)./ Her husband stuck by her in good times and bad.

*I was a tad disappointed she didn't come.

*a class reunion (졸업 후의) 동창회/ an alumni meeting

*Busch Gardens is the name of two amusement parks in the United States owned and

operated by Busch Entertainment Corporation, a division of Anheuser-Busch. One of

the parks is in Tampa, Florida and the other is in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Sophie I really appreciate you opening up to me like this.
I know what it's like to live with a shadow overhead.

Alex What?

Sophie Shadow.

Alex
Now, that's a nice melody, isn't it?

Sophie It's good.

Alex Thank you. Thank you. Mind you, what do you know?
        You don't even like melody.

*Well, what do you know? Look, who's here?

/ what do you know about that? What a surprise!

Sophie I never said that.

Alex You prefer the lyrics. I don't trust you. Your turn, what's next?

Sophie I think that we should get some breakfast.

Alex Please, come on, we're finally on a roll here. Listen again.
I've been living with a shadow overhead.

* on a roll; On a streak of success or intense activity, as in The team's scored three runs

in the last inning and they're really on a roll, or Once the experiment succeeded, Tim was

on a roll.

Sophie There'll be no more rhymes until I'm fed.

*Hes over fed. 그는 과식한다./ What's the matter? You look pretty fed up.
I'm fed up with waiting for her to telephone.

Alex Please, seriously, seriously. I've been living with a shadow overhead.

Sophie I could be inspired with just a piece of bread.
