Mrs Bennet     Praise the Lord. We are saved! Make haste, Jane, make haste. Oh, happy day!

                 고맙기도 하셔라. 이제 우린 살았다! 서둘러라, 제인, 서둘러. 기쁜 날이구나!

Jane     It is from Caroline Bingley. She has invited me to dine with her.

            Her brother will be dining out.

             캐롤라인 빙리양 한테서 왔네요. 정찬에 절 초대했어요.

             캐롤라인 오빠분은 외식하신다는 데요.

간단한 저녁식사(Supper)를 하는 것이 일반적이라고 합니다. 또 morning은 아침 식사와 정찬 사이의

시간을 말한다고 하네요.

 

Mrs Bennet     Dining out? 외식을 해?

Jane     Can I take the carriage? 마차 타고 가도 돼요?

Mrs Bennet     Where? Let me see. 어디서?  어디 보자.

Jane     It is too far to walk, mama.  걸어가기엔 너무 멀어요, 엄마.

Mrs Bennet     This is unaccountable of him. Dining out, indeed.

                        이해할 수 없구나. 외식이라니, 정말.

Lizzie     Mama, the carriage for Jane?  엄마, 언니 마차요?

Mrs Bennet     Certainly not. She'll go on horseback.

                       물론 안 된다. 말 타고 가렴.

Lizzie & Jane     Horseback?  말 타고 가라구요?

*She claims to have occult powers, given to her by some mysterious spirit.

   그녀는 자신이 어떤 신비로운 영이 부여한 불가사의한 능력을 지니고 있다고 주장한다.

 

Lizzie     Though I don't think, Mama, you can reasonably take credit for making it rain.

"My kind friends will not hear of me returning home until I am better. Do not be

 alarmed. Excepting a sore throat, a fever and a headache, there is nothing

 much wrong with me."  This is ridiculous.

하지만 제 생각엔, 엄마, 비 온 것까지 엄마 공이라고 할 순 없겠죠.

“여기 친절한 친구분들이 제가 나을 때까지 집에 보내주지 않겠다는 군요.

놀라진 마세요. 목이 따끔거리고 열나고 두통만 있을 뿐 다른 건 괜찮아요.”

이건 말도 안돼요.

Mr Bennet      Well, if Jane does die it will be a comfort to know it was in pursuit of Mr. Bingley.

                   제인이 죽고 그게 빙리씨 사랑하다 그런 거라 생각하면 위안은 되겠구려.

*He is unswerving in pursuit of his aims. 그는 목표의 추구에 있어서 흔들림이 없다.

 

Mrs Bennet     People do not die of colds. 감기로 죽는 사람은 없다우.

Lizzie     Though she may well perish with the shame of having such a mother.

I must go to Netherfield at once.

              하지만 그런 엄마를 뒀다는 수치심에 죽는 것도 무리는 아니죠.

              당장 네더필더로 가야겠어요.

*may well ; If you say that something may well happen, you mean that it is likely to happen /(~하는 것도) 당연하다, 무리가 아니다/아마 ~일 것이다.

/Hawaii may well be the most beautiful state in America.
하와이가 미국에서 가장 아름다운 주라고 해도 과언은 아닐 겁니다.

/ He may well be able to suggest practical ways round a financial difficulty.
