William Sorry, they always do that when I leave the house. It’s a stupid thing. I hate it.
미안해요. 제가 집을 떠날 때 꼭 저래요. 멍청한 짓이죠. 정말 싫어요.
Anna Floppy, huh? 헐렁이라구요?
William It’s the hair! It’s to do with the hair.
머리 때문에 그래요. 머리 모양 때문이죠.

Anna Why is she in a wheelchair? 벨라는 왜 휠체어에 앉아있죠?
William Uh, because she had an accident, about eighteen months ago.
사고였어요. 18개월 전이죠.
Anna And the pregnancy thing, is that to do with the accident?
그리고 임신 얘기는 사고와 관련이 있나요?
William You know, I’m not sure. I don’t think they’d tried for kids before,
as fate would have it. Do you want to, um…my place is just…um?
글쎄, 잘 모르겠어요. 공교롭게도 둘은 전에도 애를 낳으려고 한 것 같지는 않아요.

William I thought you were leaving tomorrow. 내일 떠나는 걸로 아는데요.
Anna I was. 그랬죠.
William All these streets round here have these mysterious communal gardens
in the middle of them. They’re like little villages.
여기의 거리는 다 가운데 신비한 공동 정원이 있어요. 작은 마을같아요.
Anna Let’s go in. 들어가 봐요.
William Ah, no, that’s the point, they’re private villages,
only the people who live round the edges are allowed in.
아. 안돼요. 그게 말이죠. 사유지라서요.
그 근처에 사는 사람들만 들어가게 되어 있죠.
*That’s just it/ the point. 바로 그것[그 점]이 문제이다.
Anna Oh, You abide by rules like that? 그렇게 규칙들을 잘 지키시나요?
*If you join a club, you have to abide by its rules. 클럽에 가입하면 그 규칙을 지켜야 한다.
William I don’t…No! No! But-others do-I just do what I want.
Um, right. Whoopsi-daisies.
전혀 아니죠. 다른 사람들이 그렇다 이거죠. 나는 안 그렇죠.
하고 싶은 대로 하죠. 어머나.

Anna What did you say? 뭐라고요?
William Nothing. 아무것도 아니에요.
Anna Yes, you did. 아니 뭐라고 그랬어요.
William No, I didn’t. 아니 안 그랬어요.
Anna You said ‘whoopsi-daisies’. “어머나” 라고 했어요.
William No one has said ‘whoopsi-daisies’, do they? , I mean unless they’re…
아무도’ 어머나’ 라고 한 적 없어요? 그런 게 아니라면…
Anna There’s no ‘unless’. Because no one has said ‘whoopsi-daisies’ for what, fifty years, and even then it was only just little girls with blonde ringlets.
‘그런 게 아니라면’ 이라니요. 아무도 지난 오십 년 동안 ‘어머나’란 말은 쓰지 않았어요. 그것도 금발 고수머리를 한 아이들만이 쓰는 표현이죠.

William Exactly. Right, so here we go again. Oh! Oh! Whopsi-daisies.
Oh, well! It’s a disease, it’s a clinical thing. I’m taking pills and having injections,
and I’m told it won’t last long.
맞아요. 다시 올라가 보죠. 어머나. 병이에요. 치료 받아야 하는 거에요.
약을 먹고 주사를 맞을 거니까, 곧 나을 거예요.
Anna Step aside. 비껴 봐요.
William I don’t think, it’s a good idea…Really, it’s quite, um, tricky…
Anna, Anna, don’t-it ‘s harder than it looks… Oh, no! It’s not, it’s easy.
글쎄, 좋은 생각이 아닌 것 같은데요. 정말 쉬운 게 아니에요. 안나, 안나,
생각했던 것보다 어려워요... 안 돼요! 그게, 쉽…네요.
Anna Come on, Flopsy. 어서 와요, 헐랭이씨.
William Right. All right. Oh, Bugger! Oh, God! This could be very unpleasant.
Ay! Bugger! Bugger! Now, what in the world in this garden could make
that ordeal worthwhile? Nice garden.
그래, 그래요. 아, 제기랄! 아니, 이런! 이거 아주 안 좋은 일이군.
아, 제기랄! 제길! 그래, 도대체 이 정원이 이런 힘을 쓸 가치가 있는 것인가요?
멋진 정원이네요.
