Inside a restaurant:

There’s an extra awkward moment when the coffee arrives.

Sun-woo insists on putting sugar in Yong-bae’s coffee,

but ends up spilling everything everywhere.

 

 

김선우: 아저씨 커피에 설탕 많이 넣어 드셨죠?

Mr. Lee, you put a lot of sugar in your coffee, right?

제가 넣어 드릴게요.

I’ll put it in for you.

 

이용배: 아냐, 내가 할게.

No.  I will do it.

 

 

 

김선우: 제가 해드리고 싶어서 그래요. 오랜만에 봬서.

I want to do it for you. It’s been a long time.

내가 뭘 쏟았나?

Did I spill something?

 

이장일: 선우야, 우릴 보자고 한 이유가 뭐야?

What is the reason that you wanted to see us?

 

김선우: 난 그냥… 그 동안 너무 연락을 못해서.

I just felt like…I couldn’t reach you for a long time.

네가 날 걱정할까 봐, 그래서 보자고 한 거야.

I was concerned that you might be worried about me.

That’s why I called you.

 

이장일: 넌 누가 데려다 줬냐?

Who brought you here?

 

김선우: 이젠 나 혼자서도 잘 찾아 다녀. 걱정 마.

I can get to places alone now. Don’t worry.

 

 

 

In a flashback, Tae-joo takes Sun-woo to a bar while they talk over his past.

 

 

문태주: 한잔 해. Take a shot.

장일이가 누구냐? Who’s Jang Il?

 

김선우: 친구였습니다.

He was my friend.

 

문태주: 지금은 아니고.

He’s not anymore.

 

김선우: 장일이 아버지가 우리 아버지 죽음과 관련이 있는 것 같아요.

Jang Il’s father is related to my father’s death.

장일인 경찰서에 진정서를 내러 가는 나를 뒤에서 내리 쳤어요.

Jang Il hit me from behind when I was going to the police station to petition.

 

문태주: 제일 친한 친구를 내리쳐야 했던 그 녀석 심정은 어땠겠냐.

Imagine what he felt when he had to attack his closest friend.

 

김선우: 그러게 말입니다. 너무 불쌍한데 용서해줄까요?

I know. Should I forgive him since I feel so sorry for him? 

 

 

 

문태주: 지금 넌 용서할 주제도 못 된다.

You’re not even in a position to forgive anyone.

그 놈을 칠 힘을 가졌을 때 하는 용서가 진짜 용서야.

Real forgiveness comes from power.

용서할 생각이 있어도 네가 그 놈을 밟을 수 있을 때 용서해.

You can only forgive him when you can smite him.

 

김선우: 용서할 생각 없습니다.

I have no intention of forgiving him.
