Prince Hwon emerges from his hiding place and prepares for his escape over the palace wall.

Just as he’s about to jump, though, he sees Yeon-woo wander into the courtyard.

Hwon falls off his ladder, knocking Yeon-woo to the ground with him.

They get up and look away awkwardly.

이훤: 보아하니 생각시는 아닌 듯한데,

               땋은 어린 궁녀를 이르던 말

궐에는 어찌 들어온 것이냐? why are you in the palace?

 

연우: 그리 물으시는 도련님은 어찌 궐담을 넘고 계셨던 겁니까?

Then why were you climbing over the wall?

 

이훤: 어허, 하문은 나만 할 수 있다.

Only I can ask questions.

어서 대답하지 못하겠느냐.  Quickly answer me.

범궐은 대역죄임을 네가 정녕 모르는 것이야?

Do you really not know that breaking into the palace is a very big crime?

*범뤌犯闕:  대궐을 침범함, 대궐을 침범하다

 

연우: 소녀는 이번 문과에 장원급제 한 오라버니 방방례에 참관하러 왔을 뿐입니다.

이훤: 그걸 내가 어찌 믿느냐?

궐의 물건을 훔쳐 달아나는 도둑을 보고도 모른 척하는 건 도리가 아니니

저는 지금 금군을 불러야겠습니다.

I’m going to call the palace guards now.

*금군 (고려·조선 군사) [禁軍]: 왕궁을 수비하는 군대. 금려(禁旅)·금병(禁兵)이라고도 한다.
 중국에서 황제의 거성을 금리(禁籬) 또는 금중(禁中)이라고 부른 데서 붙여진 이름이다.

 

 

이훤: 금군이라니? 궐의 물건을 훔쳤다니?

Palace guards? And to say that I stole things from the palace?

나…나가는 문을 찾고 있었을 뿐이다.

I…I was looking for an exit.

나 역시 형님이 문과에 장원급제하여…

I also came here to see my brother passing the civil service exam first on the list …

아니 무과에 장원급제하여…

No… passing the military service exam first on the list …

이것은… 그러니까… 형님이 추상전하께 하사받은…

This is…well…His Majesty bestowed it upon my brother…

 

연우: 여기요, 궐에 도둑이 들었습니다.

Someone, there’s a thief here.

 

금군: 웬 놈이냐! Who’s over there!

 

Hwon grabs her hand and runs.

They escape the guards and stop running.
