MIKE: You think we left too early?  우리가 너무 일찍 나왔나요?

SUSAN: I was thinking we left too late.  난 너무 늦었다고 생각했는데.

MIKE: So is, uh, Rex gone for good?  그래, 렉스는 아주 가버린 건가요?

* (비격식) 이것을 최후로, 영구[영원]히

/"Are you leaving Korea for good?" "No, I should be back in the near future."

「한국을 아주 떠나십니까?」 「아닙니다. 머지않아 다시 올 겁니다.」

 

SUSAN: I don’t know. God, I hope not. I mean, they’ve always been wound a little tight,

           but I’ve never seen’em like that. Then again, who am I to judge?

          글쎄요. 세상에, 안 그러길 바래요. 둘 늘 좀 갑갑한 건 있었는데, 저러는 건 처음이에요.

          아 또, 내가 누굴 욕하는 거야?  

MIKE: You mean, people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw soda cans?

       그러니까, 같은 약점 있는 사람끼리 욕하지 말자는 건가요?

SUSAN: Okay, you have got to know that I only get that angry around Karl.

           He just treated me so badly at the end, I I haven’t been able to get past it.

          네, 내가 칼 있을 때만 그렇게 군다는 걸 알아야 해요. 마지막에는 날 아주 막 대했다고요. 도무지 넘어 갈 수가 없었어요.

*I keep trying a philosopher's book, but I just can't get past page 30.

나는 어떤 철학자의 책을 읽으려고 하는데, 30페이지를 넘길 수가 없어요.

MIKE: Maybe he did you a big favour.

SUSAN: What do you mean? 무슨 말이죠?

MIKE: Just look at Karl as the starter marriage, you know, boot camp.

        Preparing you for something better next time.

       그냥 칼은 결혼 연습 한 걸로 쳐요. 신병훈련 받은 거죠. 다음에 더 좋은 걸 준비하는 거로.

SUSAN: Listen, Mike, I… about the whole seeing me naked thing.

           I don’t know, I just, I wanna thank you for being such a… perfect gentleman.

         저, 마이크, 난… 나 발가벗은 거 본 거 말이에요, 글쎄요, 그냥 신사답게 대해줘서 고마워요.

MIKE: Oh I wasn’t a perfect gentleman, I might’ve snuck a peek.

       완벽한 신사는 아니었어요. 슬쩍 훔쳐 봤을 걸요.

SUSAN: Oh. Goodnight. (bursts into laughter and walks towards her door.)

        오, 잘 가요.

MIKE: Oh, and, uh, for what it’s worth… wow.

       제대로 된 표현인지는 모르겠지만, 와우!

*for what it's[＝it may be] worth worth (자신의 의견이나 제안 등에 대해서) 그것이 얼마만큼 사실인지[도움이 되는지]는 모르겠지만 /Here's my advice, for what it's worth. 제대로 된 것인지는 모르지만 이것이 나름대로의 내 조언이오.

 

(SUSAN stares as MIKE walks away, smiling. She stands there surprised, then a huge smile blooms on her face as she opens her door and walks in.)
